Topic: EnEff:Stadt Campus Lichtwiese – Energy efficient advancement of Campus Lichtwiese through intelligent system networking

In order to lower the CO2-emissions and to increase the cost and energy efficiency of the energy supply at TU Darmstadt Campus Lichtwiese, an interdisciplinary team of researchers is working on the project „EnEff:Stadt Campus Lichtwiese“, sponsored by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy. The team which consists of architects, electrical and mechanical engineers as well as IT specialists is investigating how energy efficiency synergies can be exploited by creating an intelligent system considering energy supply, heat and power networks as well as the connected buildings.

The Institute for Technical Thermodynamics is responsible for the investigation and optimization of the generation and distribution of thermal energy. This work package also includes thermal energy storages and the optimization potential at the interface between heat and power network. For this purpose the heat supply on the campus is modelled and possible supply scenarios for the future are derived. Those scenarios are compared considering energy demand, CO2-emissions and energy costs.
